Phishing
can
damage your wealth
With
Broadband being such a success (BT have increased their profits), we
all are
using the Internet more. Companies are also after reducing their costs
and
improving their profits to, and your bank is such a company. Now I use
Internet
banking a lot, because we have only one local bank and it makes it easy
to
ensure my money is in the best place. However the hackers abnd
criminals also
know we use the Internet and if they can get your to give them your
bank
details, PIN and passcodes, they can get at your money. The way they do
this is
via a fake e-mail and bank website that looks like the ral thing and
they ask
you to provide your details. The scam is called “phishing” and you may
have
heard that banks may not cover your losses if you have given our
password over
via such a scam. All the banks stress that they will never ask for your
details, Pin and passcodes in any e-mail, so if you get something that
looks
like it is from your bank, don’t just give your information in a reply,
but
check with your bank on the phone. If you look at the e-mails, you can
often
see mis-spelling, odd grammer, foreign phone numbers and these are a
give-a-way. Over the Christmas period, you can expect there to be lots
of
attempts to part you from from money, so be alert.
It
is good to hear from everyone who has told be just how good Broadband
has been.
So far everyone has been delighted with their service. So I am pleased,
because
the campaign was worth while. Do remember the web site at http://www.lordjohn.demon.co.uk/theboffin/
and the e-mail address theboffin@lordjohnjohn.demon.co.uk
and with that may I wish you all a very merry Christmas.
