Is it a year already?

It actually seems like forever. Yes, I am talking about Broadband in our villages. I can not imagine going back to dial-up or ISDN, which is how I worked from home until Broadband arrived. In the Vicarage, it is not only my work that it has changed, but also the Vicar. Carol now also freely finds things via Google, looks up routes and maps, information for Church and sermons. So it has changed things for both of us, and I expcect those of you who also have Broadband will have found it the same.

However those without and still using dial-up, I encourage you to investigate moving up. The trend now days for everything being provided via the Internet is increasing, and as it gets adopted more and more by suppliers, shops, councils and even the Inland Revenue, the more the websites get designed for Broadband users rather than dial-up. I am afraid that is what we call progress and there is no turning back.

Finally, do ensure you update your Window system, Microsoft have just released a number of security fixes, and this is with good reason. Sadly progress also brings other less desirable things along with it. Just remember, if you have comments or questions, do e-mail me at theboffin@lordjohn.demon.co.uk
